
I'd meant to get a slide of Old-Man Coyote, but ended up with Older Brother Wolf. In the middle of planning a reshoot, I realized I'd been tricked.
Painted Histories began as an investigation of the displaced Shoshone Indians. However, the work became not so much about the Native Americans of my hometown, but rather an examination of how dominant white culture objectifies and commodifies Indian culture, painting a history that is not and never was.
